Leatherhead Choral Society performed 'A Birthday' as their 'Own Choice' piece as part of the prestigious Leith Hill Music Festival at Dorking Halls on Saturday 13th April.
'A Birthday' was written for Leatherhead Choral Society in 2018 and is a setting of the poem by Christina Rossetti (1830 - 1894). The piece was the winner of the LCS International Composition Competition. The score is available online from Sheet Music Plus and MusicaNeo.
The Leith Hill Musical Festival is a competitive choral festival for amateur choirs in the Surrey area, founded in 1905 by Lady Evangeline Farrer and Margaret Vaughan Williams, whose famous brother, the composer Ralph, was Festival Conductor for nearly fifty years. Each year around two thousand singers take part over five days.
